The King and His Lazy Kingdom

I would once again try to illustrate the point “Couch Potato”. In today’s generation where there is so many technologies invented like Gaming Platforms, Televisions and Computers have a bad side also that is it makes us lazy and sit in the house where as if we play two hours a day a sport like football, cricket and tennis we feel much more healthy and energetic. Thus I would like to conclude on the point please prevent ‘Obesity’ and be always cheerful, happy and sporty.

The King and His Lazy Kingdom

There was once a king who was totally unhappy and sad with his people who were too lazy to do some usefully work. The King thought to teach them a lesson so he kept a big stone in the middle of a road one night when all his men were sleeping.

Next morning a merchants came and went round the stone and didn’t even care to move the big stone so that there was easy passage of people and traffic. Then came an officer who with his horse carriage went round the big stone which laid untouched on the road Then came a soldier who also came and went round the stone though being capable of getting the stone out of its way. Each and every who passed the stone cursed the Government for not removing it.

Then came a foreigner who was passing through that road, he decided to move that stone from there so he took the help of his mates and removed it. It was evening when the foreigner did such a nice work, at that very moment when the king came to that spot to congratulate them, he told that he disguised as a beggar and by the side of the road, he called for the official and the soldier when they came to about this they felt very ashamed with such a work that they had done.

The King then presented a box full of money which was kept in a hole beneath the stone and it was etched that this purse of money belongs to whoever got this stone out of there. After that day the Kingdom became very hard-working and was never as lazy as it was before.

The Governor And His Horse

Maharaja Ranjit Singh was a lover of horses. Once he got the news that the Governor of Peshawar had a very rare, swift and beautiful horse named ‘Leila’. He sent a messenger asking the Governor to hand over the horse to him. But the Governor who himself was a great lover of horses, refused to part with his precious horse.

This enraged the Maharaja. He took it as an insult. He at once ordered another officer to proceed to Peshawar fort and produce both the horse and the Governor before him at once. The royal orders were carried out. Both the horse and the Governor were produced before the Maharaja as desired.

The Governor was severely beaten and bound hand and foot and cast into the prison. The horse’s hind and forelegs were tied by means of strong chains. Both were kept separately. The horse was very faithful to his master. Finding the guards fast asleep, the horse began to neigh. The Governor heard the neighing of the horse and slowly and secretly crept to it, caressed it and somehow broke its chains. The faithful creature felt grateful to his master, grasped with his teeth the rope round the waist of his master, put him on his back and ran off with him at an incredible speed.

Maharaja’s men pursued them hard but they could not be overtaken. The pursuers returned disappointed while the faithful horse dropped the Governor down at his palace and himself dropped down dead.

Thus the moral is ‘Adversity is the touchstone of friendship’.

Bad Company

I Daipayan Banerjee seeing today’s condition of children, teenagers and youngsters who always have a tendency to indulge in ‘Bad Company’ I would surely like to tell you this moralistic story.

Bad Company

A rich merchant had an only son. He loved him very much. Over-indulgence spoilt him. He fell into bad company. He took to drinking and gambling. There were complaints against him from all quarters. The merchant felt sad and upset. He advised him much but he turned deaf ear to all he said.

One day he hit upon a plan. He bought a few apples from the bazaar. He gave some of them to his son and placed a rotten apple among them.

After a few days, the boy was asked to bring the apples. The boy brought them and told his father that they were all rotten. The rotten apple had spoiled all the good apples.

The father said, “Listen my son! One rotten apple spoiled all the good ones. But you have many evil companions. Just imagine what your fate will be.”

The father’s words went home. They made a deep impression on the Boy’s mind. He gave up bad company. All the members of the family led a happy life.

Thus the moral is ‘Better alone than in evil company’.

The Vain Jackdaw

Once there was a jackdaw .He was hungry and was flying about in search of food. He came to a field. There he saw a party of peacocks eating corn in a field of paddy. He also tried to enter the field but there were so many peacocks that he had not the courage to enter it.

He, by chance, saw some beautiful peacock feathers lying in a corner of the field. He picked them up and fixed them among his own feathers. He now felt as proud as a peacock. He entered the same field and began to eat corn along with the other peacocks.

For some time, the peacocks took no notice of the impostor. Soon dark clouds appeared in the sky .At the sight of black clouds, the peacocks began to croak. The jackdaw, in the guise of a peacock, also followed suit. He began to caw. He was found out what he really was. The peacocks fell upon him in a body and tore him to pieces. The jackdaw lay dead on the spot. The trickster was punished for his efforts to deceive others.

Therefore the moral is ‘Borrowed garments never fit well’.

Where Has My Furniture Gone

“My whole world is now black ,”said Pavni. “Oh! My god I’ve become blind ”said she.

Pavni is staying in Boston , Massachusetts is of 56 years old and has been abandoned by his children who married and left her 7 years ago.

It was the month of January when she became partially blind . She with the help of her loyal Maid, Maria called one of her childhood friend and went to Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary . There they meet Dr.Michael Rana a renowned eye specialist.

“Doctor one morning when I woke I could see everything but very hazily, “said Pavni.

“Ok! Wait a minute I’ll have a test of your eyes ,”said the Doctor.

The Doctor then started his testing of the eyes .His face wasn’t much filled with sadness and dissatisfaction.

“Oh! Madam you are lucky,”said the Doctor “Your disease is cure able”.

“Thank you ,”said Pavani “I’ll think of it and then meet you again.”

“Sure Ma’am I’ll be always available at your service ,”said He “Here is my number”.

They all returned home Pavni sat on a discussion with her friend about the treatment .They called up the Doctor and took detailed information about the time required for complete treatment, charges and the risks involved in it.

The next day they both went to the hospital and met the Doctor . The Doctor prescribed some pre-surgical medication. He then told her to come back after ten days.

Pavni’s friend bought all the medical necessities and gave it to Pavni. Pavni’s maid daily served her with care and gave the medications on time without any delay.

On the eleventh day they went to the Doctor and told her that there was some good effect. She then told him that she wanted to start the latest by next week. Doctor agreed and then started discussing about the charges and the payment. Pavni told him that if the treatment was successful she would pay the whole amount , but if it failed and if there wasn’t any improvement , she wouldn’t even pay a single Dollar. The Doctor promised of the treatment’s success and his experience in the surgery.

She came to the hospital on the day which the Doctor had told her to come and would start her treatment. She got herself admitted in the hospital. On that very day the Doctor attended her at her room. He decided to started the treatment from next day.

The next day the Doctor performed his first surgery on that lady. The first step was successful . He came to Pavni’s room and diagnosed her condition and her improvement .He told Pavni that there was quite improvement .He then told that she will have to pay the amount of the till time treatment to further proceed on with the treatment. She told that she would pay the amount after the overall treatment has been completed. Both were stuck on each other’s words.

So the Doctor decided to continue by selling Pavni’s home furniture without informing her . So he went to her house and took all her furniture and then sold it to a shop selling second hand furniture.

One after one when all the surgeries were completed he went and met Pavni in her room . She was totally cured off her blindness . She told thanks to her Doctor. She then went home.

Next day she went to the Police Station and logged a case against the Doctor. On the first day the Jury asked for Pavni’s complaint. She told that she still couldn’t see many things and told that it was due to the bad treatment of the Doctor . The Doctor then told that during the final test she was totally fine and went home totally fine with total improvement. Pavni told against him that when she returned home her furniture was not visible . Thus the judge gave verdict in favour of Pavni and according to the agreement made between Pavni and the Doctor , he had to pay all the charges which the Doctor took for the treatment .

The moral therefore is we should not do anything to other’s properties which doesn’t belong to you and should always inform the person concerned.
